Roasted Garlic Potatoes au Gratin is a luxurious and comforting dish that elevates any meal. This creamy, cheesy potato casserole features layers of perfectly sliced starchy potatoes enveloped in a rich garlic-infused cream sauce.   • 89 medium starchy potatoes
  • 1 head garlic
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh chives for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roast the garlic by cutting off the top of the head, drizzling with olive oil, seasoning, and wrapping in foil. Bake for about 30 minutes until soft.
  3. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  4. Thinly slice the potatoes evenly.
  5. Layer the potato slices tightly in the baking dish.
  6. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, butter, half the parmesan cheese, thyme, nutmeg, salt, and pepper over medium heat until well mixed (do not boil).
  7. Squeeze roasted garlic into a bowl and mash into paste; stir into the cream mixture.
  8. Pour over layered potatoes and cover with foil.
  9. Bake covered for about 40 minutes; then uncover and add remaining cheeses on top.
  10. Bake uncovered for an additional 30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
